Ilimilku the Scribe · a new plain-English translation from the original language
'How shall we present a gift to Lady Athirat
of the [Se]a — a present to the Creatress of the gods? —
that she may give a house to Baal like the
gods', a court like the sons of
Athirat's.' Aloud to his lads
Baal cried: 'Look, Gapn-
and-Ugar, sons of gloom —
the day's kinsmen(?), sons of darkness —
lofty, first in rank, wings of [reckoning(?)] —
scorching are the bonds of
the clouds beneath . . .
the birds . . . [se]t(?)
the bird's rage(?) [upon] your [he]ad —
the lightnings between your eyes.
They shall die(?) . . . a thousand
fields(?) in the sea — ten thousand
[acr]es in the two rivers:
[cr]oss Byblos, cross
Qa'al, cross the isles of
the face of heaven. Press on(?),
O fisherman of Athirat!
Go, O Qadesh-Amrar!
Then indeed you shall set
your faces toward Egypt-of-the-god(?) —
all of it divine: Kaptor
the throne where he sits, Memphis
the land of his heritage —
across a thousand fields, ten thousand
acres. At the feet of Kothar
bow and fall, prostrate
yourselves and honor him,
and say to Kothar-
and-Hasis, repeat to Ha-
yyin of the deft hands:
'Mess[age] of Migh[tiest] [Baal,]
wo[rd] [of the Mightiest] [of Warriors:] . . .'
