This, then, is the first man, the one who loves Christ. The second is the one who honors and cherishes those who have believed in him. For whatever a man does for a disciple, the Lord takes as done to himself and makes wholly his own. "Come, you who are blessed by my Father: take as your inheritance the realm made ready for you since the world began. For when I hungered you fed me, when I thirsted you gave me drink, when I was a foreigner you welcomed me under your roof, when I went bare you clothed me, when illness struck me you came to my side, when I sat in a cell you visited me there." Then those who are upright will ask him: "Lord, at what moment did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and pour you drink? At what moment did we see you a foreigner and welcome you, or bare and clothe you? At what moment did we see you ill or shut in a cell, and come to you?" And the king will reply to them: "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for even the humblest of these brothers of mine, you did it for me." Conversely, again, those who did not provide these things to them he casts into the eternal fire, as men who did not provide them to himself. And elsewhere: "He who receives you receives me, he who does not receive you rejects me."
