How the name of our Lord Jesus Christ is shown to belong properly to the Father. What other name, then, is it that is glorified among the nations, than that of our Lord, through whom the Father is glorified, and man is glorified? And because it belongs properly to his Son, and it is by him that man was made, he calls that name his own. Just as if a king himself were to paint an image of his son, he would rightly call it his own image on both counts — because it belongs to his son, and because he himself made it — so too the name of Jesus Christ, which is glorified throughout the whole world in the Church, the Father confesses to be his own, both because it belongs to his Son, and because he himself, in inscribing it, gave it for the salvation of mankind. Since, then, the name of the Son belongs properly to the Father, and the Church offers it to God the Almighty through Jesus Christ, he rightly says on both counts: "Incense together with a spotless offering is brought to my name in every region." And John, in the Revelation, tells us that this incense stands for the prayers offered by the saints.
